I was all set to order one of these new cats, but upon further research I found out that plastic is used on rear and some other places. Tube is aluminum but rear is plastic. That's a turn-off to me - but is it OK? Is the plastic not a problem?

Appears that it is a problem for you... I am not a big fan of plastic for important pieces like the back. My old C-5 OTA and my recent Meade 8inch SCT both seem to be entirely metal and ought to last quite sometime. Actually the C-5 OTA must be going on 30 years and looks quite nice...

That's good to know. The S&T review in the August issue says "The 7-inch diameter, glossy aluminum tube has nicely machined front and rear cell castings with a satin-black finish." That implied an all metal tube assembly.
