Nexstar 5 hand controller display

I have this scope, in perfect condition, from about 8 years ago. However the LCD has started to fail. I can see enough to operate it for now, but about 1/2 of the display is blank. Celestron have been no help at all. They could care less and seem to think I shouldn't expect parts for something "that old". Even if I found a replacement hand controller I would suspect that is also reaching the end of it's life, as mine has been well treated, although I guess I would take the chance depending on price.

However I've looked at the display connection and it would be trivial to replace as it is a simple mechanical strap socket and two screws holding it.

One would think Celestron would have the spec on file and could suggest a source, but I have a suspicion that the newer controllers use the same part. The case is the same and why change something so basic?

Any help would be appreciated. It is frustrating to be told that something like this has to be discarded for lack of a $2 part.

PS. Don't buy from Celestron :C

Ulf: The hand controller that originally came with a NexStar 8i that I purchased in December 2002 is not being used, as I replaced it with Celestron's computerized controller a long time ago. Could the old controller I have possibly fit your scope? Perhaps you could post or send me a picture of the malfunctioning unit you have, and if mine is the same maybe we can make a deal.
