Nextstar wedge alignment (Repost)

Has anyone been able to get the Nexstar 4(actually I have a Tasco StarGuide) computer to align on the equatorial wedge/tripod? I tried to follow the directions in the Tasco instruction manual (point north, turn down 90* and enter your longitude and +89* latitude) which call for you to fool the computer into thinking its on the north pole. It hasn't worked. What does?

What I found works is to replace the hand control with the current Celestron version and use the "Two star alignment" option.
