Meade illuminated reticle focus?

I'm new to this so bear with me. I've just bought a meade 9 mm illuminated reticle second hand for off axis guiding. Here's the problem: When the image is focused in the cameras viewfinder the image in the reticle is out of focus. Sliding the reticle a bit out of the tube won't help - it just can't seem to reach focus.
There are two firmly locked screws on the side of the reticle (not the ones that moves the X-Y crosshairs)are they for focusing?
Hope you can help me.
sincerely
Steen

That's a tough one, I have the same problem...two factors here:
If the stars are out of focus, the only way to try to focus it is to actually slide it out like you were doing, there's no other way.
If the crosshairs are out of focus you should notice that the top of the reticle turns to bring those into focus. I wouldn't expect a crisp focus though, you just hope to get it good enough to guide...
