TAK102 eyepiece

I have a new TAK102-month old or so. I would like to poll you current or former users for the "ultimate must have" eyepiece. I currently have a Meade 26 SP, Meade 15 SP, an Orion Expanse 9mm, and a Vixen Lanthanum 5mm. I feel like I need a high quality, medium power wide-field for deep space viewing. Thinking of Pentax 21mm, or Panoptic 19. I'm using the Expanse for about everything right now, and the Lanthanum for planet power, etc. Any thoughts?
Thanks

I use the 2" Nagler4 17mm eyepiece more than any other. The views are crisp and the background black with the FS102. The field of view at 1.7 degrees seems perfect for so many objects in the sky. The eye relief for my glasses is very comfortable at 17mm.

I read somewhere that around twice your focal ratio is where your best eyepiece will be. Must be correct, at least for my one data point ;-)

Thanks for responding. I also read that the most useful ep is about twice the scopes' focal length, ie. 16mm. I was looking for something in that range, but choices are limited there.

Charles,

In the midpower range, I use the old 20mm Nagler, type II. With my FC-100, it gives me a little more than a two degree FOV. Two nights ago I was able to observe Jupiter and most of M44 in one field--it was great. The EP is a little heavy, but if you have a mount sturdy enough for the FS-102, the extra pound or two shouldn't cause problems. On the used market, they run about $300. As an alternative, the 16mm Nagler, type II is also an excellent EP yielding a FOV of 1.64 degrees. As a bonus, it is significantly lighter than the 20mm and costs about $200 used.

Hope this helps,

Greg

Greg,
Thanks for replying. I have a GM8 so that should handle ep weight easily. I'll see if I can find one a 16 sometime.

Hi, my first posting. I have had a FS102 for a few months and use Televue Plossl and Celestron Ultima eyepieces with a Televue 2.5x powermate (fantastic!). But one eyepiece to recommend is the Televue Nagler 7mm. My old second hand one will just show the whole of the Moon in the field - an awesome sight!
