My Tak FS 78 is less than two year's old. I have alway's kept all cap's on when not in use. I have noticed that when I look at the objective in direct light from a window, that the lens just looks filthy. It seem's to be covered with hundreds of little shiny spot's that do not come off. I have alway's babied this thing. Could these be water marks from cold winter observing?. My other Synta refractors do not have these mark's. Do I need to get my little FS in for a cleaning as soon as possible?. Any comments on this would be GREAT as I'm starting to stress out. Thanks...BG

The lens is hard coated I assume. I would clean it if it is impairing the view. Although oblique light can make matters look worse than they are when looking at coatings and the lens surface.
Pollen or insects landing on the lens can cause small hard shiny marks. I have had mosquitoes that have literally died on the lens and stuck to the damn thing. Perhaps wood or coal smoke is another source of this problem.
Using an alcohol based cleaner sparingly and carefully e.g. isopropyl/distilled water 70/30 and good quality lens tissue should not damage the lens in any way.
