Description

This bird has been in flight since last spring when they nested in the Dry Tortugas. After nesting they take wing for another year, never landing as they cannot rise from the water if they land. They sleep in the air, and only next spring will they alight in the low trees that are on Bush Key across from Ft Jefferson. By the way, they are enormous birds, wings are about 8 ft and if you ever got close, say 25 yrds you would be amazed at the size. Hard to tell when they are on the wing, but they are real bullies and will steal fish from gulls and terns and are very good at aerial manuvers. AEG
