The adult male in breeding plumage has returned from fishing over Bolsa Chica wetlands to his mate in the tree below. His displays for the female are dramatic and beautiful. Every year I see 3 or 4 pairs of Blue Herons nesting in some dead trees which are within the boundaries of privately owned land on which developers want to build condominiums ... as if the Herons, Egrets, Brown Pelicans and other species that make their home here do not have some inalienable rights of their own.
