In the quest to produce a good image of the inner Orion Nebula, this latest image is the result of combining an HaRGB taken with the 12 LX200GPS with a Luminance only image done with the AstroPhysics 152EDF, to produce a final LHaRGB image. The image scale of each telescope/CCD system is nearly the same (1220mm vs 1140mm) but some cropping was still necessary because the orientations of the two images were a bit different thus there were some non overlapping areas. The two 11th mag 5th and 6th component stars in the Trapezium are clearly discernable and the separation between these components and their parent stars is only 4 arc sec. Given that the images of the bright trapezium stars are somewhat over exposed, this suggests that the resolution in the less overexposed areas in this image may be sub arc sec? A hint of the green that visual observers note can be seen around the Trapezium, contributing the green/brown dusty looking bits. I continue to be amazed at what is possible with digital technology compared to film...! :-)
