In the middle of a snow storm, this owl was actively hunting. It hit the ground hard but unsuccessfully. It posed for a few seconds and was off again searching for more prey. These owls had irrupted from boreal forests in the north when the vole population plummeted and the open fields on the north shores of the Great Lakes provided the food for winter that they needed.
