Photographed 12/24/2007 from Loveland Ohio at 7:17pm EST. 3x barlow and 4x zoom used on Canon G3 camera afocal to 25mm plossl eyepiece and 102mm f9 Vixen Fluorite APO Refractor. With the barlow the effective focal length is 2754mm. Exposure is single 15 second shot at 400iso. Mount is CG5 modified for gearless tow-line tracking. I am very pleased with how accurately this system tracks. Although 15-seconds is not a very long exposure in wide-field images, it is a big challenge at the high magnification used to take this shot. At this high optical magnification (440x when you count the camera optical zoom) I do not expect to see any nebulosity in the image, so I am not sure what the plume is coming from Alcyone. Is it just an unwanted reflection off the camera lens, or is it part of the nebula cloud reflecting Alcyones light brighter than what I would expect?
