Description
The Flaming Star Nebula (IC 405, Sh2-229, Caldwell 31) is a combination emission/reflection nebula about 1500 light-years away in the constellation Auriga and is illuminated to magnitude 6.00 by the bright star AE Aurigae. The nebula is about 5 light-years across.
