Description

Western Veil and Witches Broom Nebula Imaged this Sept and Oct from suburban Los Angeles skies using a Takahashi FSQ10,6 Tak focal reducer, Astrodon narrow band filters, QSI 583 camera all riding on a G-11 mount. The Veil is an object the works well using only the H-alpha OIII filters. I spent about 12 nights gathering pictures from late September into the middle of October, repeatedly shooting 15 min exposures with only the 2 filters.f The city lights or the phase of the moon didn't seem to effect the imaging. In fact, some of the nights we while the moon was full or close to full. I had never spent this much time on a single object before and I was curious how it would turn out so I just kept getting more in more pictures until it seemed like enough. All of the images were captured with MaxIm 5, then on to CCD Stack for stacking and some preprocessing, then I finished it off with Photoshop CS5
