Description

Messier 26 and Barnard Objects in Scutum. Single photo taken not far above the horizon at the Naperville Astronomy Association dark sky site early morning of 8 June 2013. Scope is 5-inch f4.6 Jaegers objective lens with Canon Digital Rebel at prime focus, IR cut filter removed. Some color balancing in Photoshop to adjust color due to removal of IR cut filter. Exposure is 3 minutes at 400iso, Losmandy GM-8 mount free tracking. Messier 26 is about 5000 light years from earth, and spans about 22 light years across. Note the few stars peeking through the dark interstellar cloud on the left of the image. Also known as NGC 6694. View is spectacular through 25mm eyepiece with this refractor.
