Description

The Vela supernova remnant (SNR) is a result of a giant star that exploded ~12,000 years ago. This is only a relatively small part of the entire SNR with a angular field of view of 4 degrees (The distance displaced when holding three fingers at arm’s length). The entire SNR displaces an angular distance of 8 degrees and is ~800 light-years distant.
