Description

The Eagle Nebula, aka M16 or the Star Queen Nebula is a open cluster of stars in the constellation Serpens (The Serpent) at a distance of 7,000 light-years. At the center of this wide field image are the “Pillars of Creation” made famous by the Hubble Space Telescope. To the left of center at the 8 o’clock position is the “Stellar Spire”. While the Spire appears small in this image it’s actual length is close to 10 light-years.
