Description
IC 5146 is a faint and famous emission/reflection/dark nebula in northern Cygnus, near the Lacerta border. Also known as Caldwell 19 and Sharpless 2-125, this complex is a little over 1000 parsecs distant, and about 15 light-years across the main portion of the nebula. The reflection portion of the nebula is dimmed and reddened by the large amount of dust in the region, which (on wider-field images) extends into the dark lane of Barnard 168. This image is composed of approximately two hours each of luminance, red, green, and blue.
