The M10 globular cluster was cataloged by Charles Messier in 1764 and he described it as “a nebula without stars"! Guess that shows that even the pro’s don’t always get it right. :-) M10 lies in the constellation of Ophiuchus at a distance of 14,300 light-years. It’s estimated to be ~11 billion years old and completes one orbit about the Milky Way every 140 million years. The bright core has a diameter of ~35 light-years.
