Description
The well-known Cocoon nebula, about 1000pc distant in the constellation of Cygnus. The bright portion is about 12 arc-minutes in diameter, which at that distance corresponds to a size of 15 light years. One of the wonderful things about this nebula is the surrounding swirl of dust, darkly outlining the deep redness of the nebula. In wide-field shots, this dark material extends quite a distance from the Cocoon.
