Eyepiece projection view of the moon near craters Herschel and Maupertuis, Promontorium Laplace, Sinus Iridum and Mare Imbrium. Herschel is near the top center of the image. Sinus iridum is the flat area bottom left. Mare Imbrium is the flat area at bottom right. Promontorium Laplace is the mountainous zone that juts in between Sinus Iridum and Mare Imbrium. Most interesting is this view of crater Maupertuis, the "hand-like" crater impression just above Promontorium Laplace. Higher resolution LRO views show more detail of this old impact-obliterated crater. Herschel is not well-illuminated but some details are present. This image was obtained with my 14.5" f4.3 Zambuto mirror Starmaster dobsonion with Skycommander goto and tracking. The eyepiece is a Siebert Optics Observatory Series 36mm 2" eyepiece combined with 2x OCA. Varimax II Pro-Series eyepiece projection onto Canon T3i. Skies were good to start with during my viewing session, but deteriorated by the time this image was taken.
