This is a recent image of M42 taken with a Planewave CDK 17 and a QHY 600 mono CMOS + Chroma 50mm filters. It was taken from my house in Foresthill, CA. Only RGB exposures were used ... no luminance needed ... darks and flats and bias frames were applied and the data was reduced in MaxIm DL and processed in PS CS6. Three different exposures were used to deal with the extreme dynamic range of the subject matter. Images were aligned using Registar and then combined in PS using masked layers. Resolution allowed splitting ( barely ) stars number 5 and 6 in the Trapezium photographically.
