Description
The galaxy M106 near the Big Dipper constellation. A total of 4 GB of data including flats, darks, and bias went into this image. Taken with a Planewave CDK 17 and an SBIG STLX 16200 CCD with Chroma filters. H-alpha filter was 5nm bandpass. Photons acquired from my home observatory in Foresthill, CA. Note the extremely distant group of red shifted galaxies in the lower right of the image. They are probably billions of light years distant. Imagine a photon traveling for billions of years through a distance we can't comprehend ending its journey on my telescope ... we are privileged to see it.
