Description

The Heart Nebula (IC 1805) with open cluster Melotte 15 at the center in the constellation Cassiopeia. This emission nebula was discovered by William Herschel on November 3, 1787. Also known as Sharpless 2-190, it is approximately 7500 light years from Earth. To put that into perspective, the photons that hit my camera sensor during the 2021 Peach State Star Gaze started their journey to earth some 1500 years before human civilization existed.
