Description
This is NGC 2359, more popularly known as Thor’s Helmet, located about 15,000 light-years away in the constellation Canis Major. The object has been sculpted by an extremely hot giant star thought to be near the supernova stage of evolution. It took several clear nights (scarce at this time of year) to gather enough data for this picture. I made the image with the ZWO2600mc one shot color camera with Triad Quad filter and my Explore Scientific 127 atop the iOptron CEM70ec. I Processed the 5.5 hours of data in Pixinsight and tweaked it in Photoshop.
