Description
Active star formation is the name of the game in the cosmic pond that is The Tadpole Nebula. The object lies about 12,000 light-years away in the northern constellation of Auriga, the charioteer. The two streamers of material in the lower left of the image are most likely sites of ongoing star formation, similar to the “Pillars of Creation” in The Eagle Nebula. The tadpole shapes are each about 10 light-years long.
