Frank:

As part of a discussion of this news article at Astronomy dot com, I read the original news report in German, and a subsequent telephone interview report with Ansgar Korte of the Hohmann/Essen Observatory. He was misquoted in the interview and had not actually seen the alleged meteorite.

I'm not disputing the boy's report, but it has some curious elements that don't seem to fit the usual profile of a small meteorite strike. As far as I've been able to determine from the various interviews, the only "testing" so far has been that the boy verified a magnet will stick to the pebble.

I'm surprised there weren't more followup reports. Apparently this happened on June 8 or 9.

Jeff b.
It does seem like either a rough translation or a poorly told story since a meteorite that makes a foot wide crater would probably tear through his hand, not bounce off it and bury itself in the road. Still, if it were a meteorite that hit his hand and landed in the road, with the details somewhat muddled, would that be the first recorded instance?
I believe someone said there are two other known instances......one has to wonder what the odds are.......
