A C-Mak gets the once over in this week's winner...

The Celestron C130 5.1 inch Maksutov OTA makes a debut here in the AstroMart reviews and the author takes this week's prize.

Comments:

I finally got a clear, dark, steady night. M3 resolved nicely at 130x. M81 and M82 showed a bit of detail at 62x. I could see M51 - no spiral structure, but NGC 5195 was evident in the same field, again, with 62x. M42 wasn't bad! The Trapezium was nicely resolved and the nebula filled and exceeded my 0.8 degree FOV at 62x. Nebula structure was bright and lots of detail present.

I had steady viewing. With my 8 inch newtonian, carefully collimated, I could see an extraordinary amount of detail on Jupiter. The GRS was quite visible with detailed structure. With the C130, the image wasn't as good. The GRS was visible, but without the swirls and other detail evident in the 8 inch newtonian. It was still a nice view, however, with equatorial bands evident and polar regions showing some detail.
