Boeing Wins $799.5 Million Contract For Moon Rocket

WASHINGTON - NASA on Wednesday awarded the Boeing Co. a $799.5 million contract to produce an avionics system that will control the Ares 1 rocket, which will be used to send astronauts back to the moon. The latest deal is the final major contract award for the program that will launch the Orion crew exploration vehicle into orbit by 2020.

I'm glad there is a new chapter being writen for NASA and I wish and hope, it will develope many New spin-offs like the ol Apollo program.
But I can't help from felling we are taking a step back. I would be more in favor of a miniture size version of the Shuttle, even if it only launched the Astronauts. My next hope is that we get equipment, software, and design ,ALL be done by Americans.
We pay the bills, so we should keep what is ours. As you can tell, I am not a "One world Order Guy", but I fell we need to restore the "made in America" and fell proud of our strengths. I will not put on a firesuit too start a war, but I am sharing my convictions. 8O

I suppose I have two different sets of feelings about this.... First, when I read the article, it made me immediately think back to Christmas 1973 and how I was so proud of my Saturn rocket model- and to this day remember the smell of the decals. The space program of the sixties spawned something in a lot of young Americans - todays Engineers and Scientists. Someone has to carry the torch...so I hope this program is successful.

I did not consider the impact of non-Americans working on this project. It didn't even occur to me. This morning I read in the newspaper about how once again China has given us a batch of toxic toys.... The inference was that it is intentional. I hear more and more anti-China discussion, and I have to say I'm for keeping an American space program just that.... I know from experience first hand that the majority of the consumer goods coming from China has NO QUALITY ASSURANCE .
Okay- this is not a political forum so I'm going back outside to view....the moon is lovely tonight in Bay St Louis, MS.
