Welcome to the night sky report for October 2026 -- Your guide to the constellations, deep sky objects, planets, and celestial events that are observable during the month. This month, Saturn reaches opposition, making the ringed planet visible for much of the night, a thin crescent Moon appears close to bright Jupiter before sunrise, the Orionid meteor shower peaks (although Moonlight may interfere, so look before dawn after Moonset), and late in the month, and the Moon passes near the Pleiades M45 star cluster. The crisp, clear October nights are also full of celestial showpieces for the deep sky gazer. For example, find Pegasus the flying horse of Greek mythology to pinpoint nice dense globular clusters and galaxies. The night sky is truly a celestial showcase.
