Hello from David and Wendee Levy
It is my pleasure to be a member of the Astromart family. As I sit here looking at a cloudy sky, I admit to being somewhat discombobulated. I was all set to watch a beautiful shuttle launch this afternoon, and now it has been delayed again. I remember John Glenn having to wait for 10 postponements.
This fall I have two new books coming out. The first one is called David Levy's Guide to Variable Star Observing. It is a new edition of my Cambridge book on variable stars. The other one, from Prometheus Books, is called "Deep Sky Objects. It is about the objects I have encountered in my telescope since I began my comet hunt almost forty years ago. Galaxies, Star clusters, nebulae and stars are included -- each one with a personal story of some sort.
From August 7-10, my wife Wendee and I are hosting our second annual Adirondack Astronomy Retreat. It will be held at the Twin Valleys Camp, about 40 miles south of Plattsburgh, New York, off Interstate 87. The idea is to get together informally to observe for a few nights right after Stellafane. I invite you to visit our website, www.jarnac.org, and follow the link to the Adirondack Astronomy retreat.
While at our site, you can also follow the link to Project Skywatcher. There you can see my "movie" I witnessed a most strange event, the impact of a comet by a spacecraft. I never thought I'd live to see something like that.
So everyone, enjoy your summer, happy reading, and happy observing!
-David
(Note: we look forward to hearing more from David in the coming months - Ed.)
