Excellent review, Timm. Concise, thorough and objective(no pun intended). You helped make me finalize my decision in favor of the TV Plossl.
Thanks - I have really enjoyed them, and I am glad you liked the review. I am also set to do more reveiws with my charts in the basement, so I'll try and find the time to do more.

Timm
That was a very good review and extremely useful. One of the more well written ones in a long while.

My point to add is what was covered in the review: I wear glasses with relatively thin lenses. Although I found the optical quality of the TV Plossels to be excellent, the eye relief made enjoying them impossible with glasses on. I switched to Radians and they have been fantastic- now I own practically the whole Radian line and they are my workhorse eyepieces.

Ivan
Thanks for the comments.

Being that I don't wear glasses, I think its fair to say that your opinion on them is probably 100% accurate, and is probably true for all plossls, which is why the Radians are so popular with folks who use glasses while observing.

Too bad the vision care health insurance doesn't pay the difference to go from a TV Plossl, to a TV Radian - LOL!

If they pay for your glasses, shouldn't they pay for your need to have longer eye relief eyepieces?

Timm

Ivan Ong said:

That was a very good review and extremely useful. I also like the TV plossls very much.
Especially when using a scope on a driven mount. The 50 degree field is a little narrow when using an Alt Az mount like my Gibraltar.
I use a 4 inch Televue scope and generally stick to wide field eyepieces when using the scope on an Alt Az mount.
I have noticed that the Celestron Ultima barlow actually adds some color to the image. I never noticed this before until I started using an Apochromatic telescope.
I have found that the TV plossls have less color when used with a TV barlow rather than the Ultima.
Just my opinion.
Steve
Thanks for the comments - I would love to be able to do a comparison between barlows, but its not very practical to own more than one, I guess.

Which TV barlow do you own?

Timm

steve Whitehouse said:

I also like the TV plossls very much.
Especially when using a scope on a driven mount. The 50 degree field is a little narrow when using an Alt Az mount like my Gibraltar.
I use a 4 inch Televue scope and generally stick to wide field eyepieces when using the scope on an Alt Az mount.
I have noticed that the Celestron Ultima barlow actually adds some color to the image.
