International Scientific Panel: Asteroid Killed Off the Dinosaurs - Case Closed
The Cretaceous-Tertiary mass extinction, which wiped out the dinosaurs and more than half of species on Earth, was caused by an asteroid colliding with Earth and not massive volcanic activity, according to a comprehensive review of all the available evidence according to a panel of 41 international experts. The scientists reviewed 20 years' worth of research to determine the cause of the Cretaceous-Tertiary (KT) extinction, which happened around 65 million years ago. The extinction wiped out more than half of all species on the planet, including the dinosaurs and large marine reptiles, clearing the way for mammals to become the dominant species on Earth.

Yes, it's true! Science is decided by votes of panels--it's worked so many times in the past it's got to be right this time!

I think Karl Popper said something to the effect, Nature does not care what you think is true!

But narrowing the competition for grant money can be vital to getting your offspring through college or being able to afford your a new Jetta! Not sure what would be so hard to comprehend about asteroid impacts and extinction. Look at the surface of the Earth via GoogleEarth and you will find that the surface of our planet is pock-marked with scars of major impacts around the world.

Take Hudson Bay in Canada, for instance. Clearly, Carl Sagan was on the right path when he mentioned the lower eastern region of the bay is a perfect arc, indicating at one point that a crater rim was pushed up from impact. My theory is that a major impact took place somewhere else in the world which thrust our planet in to an ice age. The Hudson Bay impact is what set off the grain plains flooding millions of years after and is also the point where Earth lost most of it's water out in to space from sublimation. The impact formed the North American landscape as we know it today. The proof is having found coral reefs and sea shells at 5000 feet altitudes ...

Science as a belief, by far, is better than adhering to principals of talking snakes and incestuous practices in my opinion.

And the EVIDENCE is that an asteroid was the cause/part of the cause.
I didn't hear any mention of the frogs.
There are some disconcerting pieces of evidence that should give one pause in declaring the asteroid impact to be the sole cause of the dinosaurs demise.
One thing that doesn't get mentioned much is that there is a lot of evidence that the dinosaurs were in decline before the impact. It may not have taken much to push them over the edge.
And let's not forget the frogs.
These amphibians are notoriously sensitive to environmental changes yet they survived the impact and its aftermath. How? Until this is explained I think I'll withhold my vote.

dan kowall
I agree. I think its a load of bull that they would come to a conclusion like this was american idol or something. The science community have got an ego the size of the oort cloud (which still hasn't been proven exists yet, maybe they will put that to a vote as well) that they actually believe the cosmos revolves around them. Pretty soon our childrens text books will be filled with crap that is stated as scientific fact when no real world hardcore evidence is presented, oh wait that has already happened. The real scientists are the amateurs who do it for the love, not the dollars.
Remarkable!

It's not about what actually happened; it the audacity of thinking that a scientific fact can be decided by majority opinion.

Why don't high schools teach logic instead of shop? Maybe we'd have better political leaders too!
Besides evidence that dinosaurs were in decline before
this event, these question remain unanswered:
1)why did amphibians, crocadilians, fish, birds; etc. surive
this event?
2)Why is there no fossil evidence to back this up in
any part of the iridium layer or the surrounding ash,
carbon deposits; etc. in the geologic strata?

I've been so smug about the lack of evidence for the religious
theory of creation, yet we don't have conclusive evidence
either of this biggee in paleontolical philosophy! This from
a strong believer in evolution and creation science basher.
