James ‘Scotty’ Doohan passes on at age 85

While battling recalcitrant equipment in the dark, many an amateur astronomer has invoked the name of that most famous of outer space engineers. World War II veteran James Doohan, the actor who created that beloved character, has passed away and we send our best wishes to his family...

Comments:

You've given it all you've got.
Good-bye Scotty
We'll not see his like again.

Greetings:

James Doohan is obviously known for his role of Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott, who is one of the most beloved science fiction characters ever. He was a part of classic americana. He was also was a participant in one of the most historic events in human history, Operation Overlord (aka. D-Day.) He was one of hundreds of thousands who fought to liberate Europe from the Nazis. This is another reason to honor him. We need to remember the sacrifice, courage, determination, and sheer strength of will that his generation; "The Greatest Generation" put forth so that we can enjoy the freedom many of us take for granted.
Isn't it ironic though, that Mr. Doohan passes on today of all days, the anniversery of the Apollo-11 moon landing?
Well thank you 'Scotty' for providing an opportunity to dream of strange new worlds if only for an hour or two. Thanks as well for motiviting people to strive for careers in the sciences and technolgies. Again, thank you for helping keep this world from decending into darkness and tyranny. Men like yourself are becoming increasingly few and far between. Go with God...

JHK
