Great review. I have had my C14 for a few years now (moounted on CI700 mount) and am very happy with it. It has cured me of aperture fever for some time. Even though I don;t use any DCS now, I still can see every galaxy plotted on Uranometria through the scope from a dark sky site.

Get the naglers!
I can't believe it, I just paid for a new CGE 1400 yesterday and am now eagerly awaiting it's delivery in about 7 days. I have/had a 12"Meade LX200 GPS but felt that it could do with a little more...glass?
After reading your article I began to investigate the C14 having never owned a Celestron before and was very impressed with both the reviews and the fanaticism of it's owners. I was intending to buy the new Meade RCX and literally took a right turn at the 11th hour, a turn that my friendly Meade dealer doesn't know about yet. The reasons revolve around portability and glass. The C14 remains one person portable and virtually all of my observing is in the field. This appears not to be the case for the new RCX, the 12" LX200 was tough enough. The other issue was that of the XLT coatings, the more I looked into it the more it became apparent that the XLT coatings were superior. I know that there are a lot of features on the Meade that are lacking on the C14 including mirror lock but I found the finish of the C14 very appealing. I put up my Meade for sale locally and it went in 24 hours. I am now looking forward to a new love affair!
