Refractor Rapture Captures This Week's Prize

The Meade 152ED sports a nice price for the specs but how does it perform in the field? This weeks review winner gives one amateur's viewpoint - in detail.

Comments:

Found this very similar to my observations with a 5.5" refractor.

Clear skies,
Richard

Hi Ed.
Like others have said, "nice review"!
Have you had a chance to observe any bright, white stars, like Sirius, Vega, Procyon, Altair, etc.? Do you see much in-focus color on them?
The reason I ask it that my experience with a non-ED triplet refractor (Brandon) closely matches yours w.r.t. color correction. That is, the Moon and bright planets (except Venus) showed essentially no spurious color, but when the scope was pointed at a bright white star, c.a. was visible.

Once again, very good report! If a fine example of a 5" or 6" Meade ED showed up in my area, I'd be very tempted to buy it. The 7" might be a back-breaker, tho... <g>

Cheers,

Clive Gibbons.

More a question than a comment. Ed's review got me all excited about the 152ED, so I started checking dealers(Astronomics, Anacortes)and did not find it. Is it out of production? Many thanks.

Yes, I think it is out of production. And Meade want to get rid of them. Few weeks back Meade outlet on ebay had these for very low price. And I missed it. Now they are dumping 102ED, though not as cheap as 152ED deal, it is good too.
