Seeing Planets Despite the Stars...

A gigantic, daisy-shaped space shield could be used to block out pesky starlight and allow astronomers using an orbiting telescope to zero in on Earth-like planets in other solar systems, according to a University of Colorado at Boulder study.

Comments:

In a Stoogian spirit- wouldn't the sunshade be even BETTER if a spacecraft went all the way to the planets in question, and blocked out the light there at the source? <img class='' src='http://new.astromart.com/astromart/javascripts/sceditor/emoticons/grin.png' alt='grin' title='grin'/> <br><br>Jess Tauber
I wonder if other planets and/or their companion moons within our own solar system could be used as such proposed artificial star shades. Even though the planets and their moons are orbiting there are periods of time when they are essentially stationary relative to our position to them. Then again, would the brief time period be sufficuent to render an image or take measurements?
