Hello to everyone,

Unfortunately there is a big misunderstanding concerning the heliocentric suggestion of the solar system.

It is widely known (there is an article at Sky and Telescope also) that Copernicus had a reference at Aristarhus of Samos and his suggestion of a Sun centered solar system, which is later erased... He also calculated the orbits of the planets observable at the time and he had found that there where moving not in perfect circles, but ellipses (I'm not sure that this is the correct word in English).

I have seen also Carl Sagan at his Cosmos series, beeing at Alexandria, that there is a saved scroll after the disaster, which has Aristarhus suggestion about the solar system.

Best regards to everyone
Emmanouilidis Konstantinos
Ionia Thessaloniki Hellas

How would DNA testing help? What would we compare it to? We could determine the ethnicity of the skull but how would DNA testing prove the skull was Copernicus's?

Critically reading the above article leads to confusion. First, one has to wonder how a skull can provide information about features of the dermis. Having spent some time looking around the web for more information on this, I have to conclude that there is no physical evidence on the skull to conclude that a scar belongs on the facial reconstruction. Second, is the statement about DNA evidence. The above article fails to elaborate on this point. Indeed, reading the above article makes one wonder what the DNA would be compared to. However, a bit more research has shed some light on this. Apparently the location of the remains of one of Copernicus' relatives is known. If these remains could be procured then one could compare DNA to look for a familial relationship. I hope this helps someone as I had to do a bit of searching to clear up my confusion.

Cheerio,
