Team envisions exploring Mars with mini probes

MIT engineers and scientist colleagues have a new vision for the future of Mars exploration: a swarm of probes, each the size of a baseball, spreading out across the planet in every direction.

Can someone expound on the type and value of such information that can be gathered by such a probe. I would be interested to learn just what a bunch of probes distributed in a given area could provide. I envision such a set of probes dumped in the desert and see a lot of duplicate info that will add very little to the composite of data. Then numerous people would pour over the data making charts and graphs hoping to make some sense of it in order to provide something useful. Give me more that Hopping Probes Gathering "Data".

Your exactly right! That would be a great way to collect weather info on Mars, but as for exploring???? Got to have a thinking person up there knowing which hole to look in and what rock to turn over.
