THEMIS Explorers Discover Giant Breach in Earth's Magnetic Field
The magnetosphere is a bubble of magnetism that surrounds Earth and protects us from solar wind. NASA's five THEMIS spacecraft, equipped with instruments that measure ions, electrons, and electromagnetic radiation in space, have just discovered a breach in Earth's magnetic field that is ten times larger than anything previously thought to exist. Solar wind is flowing in through this large opening and loading up the magnetosphere with a torrent of solar wind particles. This can set the stage for spectacular auroras, power outages, and other disturbances and could also lead to stronger geomagnetic storms than we have seen in many years.

Oh, Lordy.
Now this.
And the most important question of all: Who can we start blaming? Is this the consequence of anything the Republicans might have done over the last decade or so? Can't someone figure out a way to get George Bush's fingerprints on this?

BTW Seriously, thanks for the informative and well-written article.

The breach may have been caused by a band of ex-Gold's Gym body building midgets wearing Neodumium magnet encrusted tights while running around a maypole in Fresno. When you combine the effect of this and the worm hole connecting the black holes of the Bermuda Triangle and Marianna's Trench, there is little question that UFOs have nothing to do with this.

I must now leave to purchase more SPF 60 and D-cells.
