Thieving dwarves cause supernovae

Researchers have come up with a theory for how stars can end in a spectacular so-called Type Ia supernova in less than 100 million years.

This is one of my favorite quotes, though there are bits of it missing here. And this was exactly my reaction on reading this article, too. It sounds as though someone thought white dwarf stars could only pair with a certain kind of star, and now somebody has come up with the idea that white dwarfs can orbit a *second* kind of star that somehow lets the dwarf accrete mass much faster. It just seems like hand-waving to me rather than "research".<br>
