What happens when aperture fever bites a refractor guy? He goes shopping :-)

This week's review contest winner takes a peek at an 8" bargain bucket the author bought to catch a few more photons than his prized refractors do. How did he fare?

Did you try rotating the collimator to determine if it or the eye-piece adaptor was "out of round"? I found that my premium dual size (2", 1 1/4") collimator (Howie Glatter) was "in round" and that my other budget-valued collimator was not.
Hal, I actually had an unusual experience with the laser collimator. It turns on with a knurled knob. When I turned the knob, it actually moved the position of the red dot. I have no idea what was happening internally. But I kept playing with it, turning it on and off and checking the alignment of the laser with methods similar to what you suggest. Evenutally the knob smoothed out and now the red dot seems to be at least very close to alignment. I havn't had a chance to check it out with the scope yet, maybe this weekend.<br>David E
