Iowa Star Party

Star Party [SP]
The Iowa Star Party will be held beginning Thursday evening, September 16 through Monday morning, September 20 at the beautiful Garst Farm Resort in rural Guthrie County near Coon Rapids, Iowa. We will have a large Astrofest-like telescope field with the darkest skies this side of Nebraska. Dr. Guillermo Gonzalez, Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Iowa State University will be the special guest speaker Sunday, September 19, 2004. The title of the presentation is "Extrasolar Planets, What Have We Learned?" Abstract: "I will review the latest discoveries of giant planets around nearby Sun-like stars. With the number of planets now well over 100, we can search for trends in the data too subtle to see when the sample size was much smaller. Several interesting trends regarding both the properties of the host stars and of the planets are already evident in the data." This star party is being jointly sponsored by the Ames Area Amateur Astronomers and the Garst Farm Resort ( Meals will be provided and accommodations ranging from tent camping to full B&B will be available. If you have any questions contact David Oesper (515-232-8705, or Liz Garst (712-684-2964,
