Mike,
I had a pair of oberwerk 12x60's which gave nice views but had a very loose focuser that I did not like.I sold them and purchased a pair of Pentax PCF WP 16x60's. Despite a narrower field of view I love the Pentax binos. Very sharp out to the edge and very well built. I just purchased a pair of PCF WP 8x40's as well. Check out Focus Camera for pricing on the PCF's,I got my 16x60's for the price you are listing for the 7x50's. Also Pentax is offering a $30 rebate on the PCF series binos.

I have the Ober 8x56s - they're a lot of binoc for the money, and they make a great all-around pair - light, unusually good images for the price, and rubber-coated. I have other, larger binocs, but my sister glommed onto them for the lunar eclipse and wouldn't share....
