TEC 140 and Zeiss/Baader Binoviewer Question

Will the Zeiss/Baader bv work with the Tec 140 using the dedicated Zeiss/Baader diagonal? I'm assuming use of the standard package and its 1.25x corrector. If this is not a workable combination, what does it take to make the Zeiss/Baader unit work with the Tec 140? One of the higher power correctors, perhaps? I'd be interested in feedback from anyone using a Tec 140 and a Zeiss/Baader binoviewer.

Hi Rob,

I'm not sure how much in-travel margin you have with the TEC. According to the AP Website, with the 1.25 corrector and the Baader Prism Diagonal in place, the Bino use 4.5" in-travel.....if you switch to the 1.7 corrector, that reduces the needed in-travel to 3.25". When you consider that a standard MaxBright Diagonal has about a 4.1" optical path, that doesn't seem too bad. I think these numbers are accurate - and they match what I remember happening when I switch the Bino into the OTA. I notice you are in the SF East Bay Area also - maybe we should get together and you could give mine a try.

Regards

I used my new AP/Baader-Zeiss Type V with my TEC 140 last week at the Texas Star Party. Using the dedicated Baader diagonal with 1.25x corrector, I was able to come to focus with in-focus to spare with 24 mm panoptics and 7.5 mm TAK LE's. I don't know, however, whether the TEC 140 has enough in-focus to accomodate these or other eyepieces without the 1.25x corrector. Chuck Evans
