Wondering about 16 Nagler type 5

After finding my newly acquired 12 Radians much nicer than the UO Konigs(actually the resolution was similar, but ER and color made a nicer contrast for banding on Saturn), I'm thinking about replacing everything with the 16 Nags! With my power switch, I would have 50-201. I use my 115LW f/7 on a unistar and a Orion Skyview pro. Any feedback from anyone using these EP's in bino-mode greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

I use them binoviewing in a variety of scopes, no problems with eye relief (but I don't wear glasses to observe). It's a very handy focal length. They do have a different feel than the type 6's.

My 15 Pan's also have 10mm eye relief and work fine for me, again without eyeglasses. I agree with Paul this is a very handy f.l.

I also have T6's but find I cannot fully use the 82° AFOV when bino'ing. When I look straight ahead center, the field edges are so far out there in peripheral vision that unless something bright is at the field edge I miss it. Turning my eyes far enough to resolve the field stop in both is uncomfortable (in mono mode, I simply turn my head slightly).

So for me, Plossl's are too narrow, Nagler's overkill and Panoptics perfect. Others seem to do better utilizing 82°, so it may just be my 58 yr. old eyes. 8O If you have never bino'ed with Naglers you might want to give it a try before spending the big bucks.

I used to really like the 16mm T5. I have a pair of them for binoviewing, but lately have been using 24mm Panoptics. I wasn't sure why I preferred the Pans, just did.

Last weekend I tried the Naglers again and found out why. There is a lot of color in the 16mm T5's. I was looking at the moon (3/4 full) with Denkmeier standards, a 2" power switch through a 22" f/5 Newtonian. The color was very noticable in all 3 power switch positions. I also tried UO 12.5mm orthos and the view through them was very good also.

Has anyone else seen this behavior with the 16mm Nagler? I'd never noticed it in mono mode. Is it because of some effect related to the standard binoviewers and not having the Denk II's?

I use a pair of 16&5 in my baader bino with 1.25 and 2.6 OGC. I think the views a great at about 100x and 180x. Saturn and the moon are also great (warm views(. I will now get a pair of 11mm naglers for higher power (before the sale ends at least).
