A customer has a 12.5" Starmaster ELT and had a problem with light coming in from under the light shroud due to the 4 pole design not permitting the shroud to seal the mirror box top.
So he wanted an upper baffle made to help stop the light. He gave me measurements and I came up with a product.
The first one went out to him and he got back to me with a picture of it installed. I guess it fit perfectly. grin The truss poles hold it in place, no attachment needed.
Here is one of the pictures he sent.
What do you think, a good idea? I guess I will offer it as a new product.

Humm, not a bad idea. Personally I have the SM11 4 pole type and I simply pull the shroud down to meet the box then pull the few inches of extra slack back up and blouse it and it covers the edge of the box so I do not have this problem.

Interesting idea, Floyd. I want one for my f/5 12.5" ELT but with a twist smile

I would like the four holes to be "keyholes" catching the balls so the entire UTA with poles can be lifted off and the poles don't fly apart. I.e. like the SM Hybrid. Not sure if the geometry allows it (I think so, with the round holes on the exact geometric diagonals, and the slots over the off-diagonal socket holes), or if the plastic material is stiff enough. Was planning to make one using thin plywood (but didn't have any on hand).

What do you think?

I tell my oldest son that he is a lateral thinker meaning that he is not impeded by logic. Many times he seems to go directly to the answer of a problem. Nearly flunked a math class because he didn't show his work but got all the answers right. Didn't feel the need to write all the trivial crap down. I say, if it works then it is a product. We always need for people to continue to solve problems. Just glad we have you to do that for us.
