Anyone on the forum tried an Astro-tech Voyager and a small Newtonian-type scope? I was thinking of getting a grab-and-go for both my WO66 and my SN6". Just wondering if it works well with a 6" Schmidt Newtonian.

Thanks, Ed

Too wobbly for your SN6". I have a AstroTech Voyager and a Vixen Porta. I have used both extensively for 7 months. They are the same- good for up to 80-90mm refractors max, not much else beyond. I tried my Traveler on the Voyager loaded up at 15lb. It was useless for observation.
The swing arm design of the Voyager creates a lot of vibrations, especially if you install the eyepiece tray option. A light 5" Newtonian might be ok, assuming vibration suppressor pads are used. I can't believe that AstroTech advertises the Voyager as a 18+lb load. I believe the Voyager is a copy cat of the older swing arm Tak Teegul design, which has now been made more sturdier by the Lapides modification.
