Hey I am looking a getting a new solar filter for my 70mm Televue Pronto. I am stuck between a Thousand Oaks black polymer or Glass filter.

Any suggestions? What are your experiences with black polymer for visual observation of the sun?

I am planning on watching the May eclipse and the June Venus transit.

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,

The Baader film has, for me, been the best white light solution other than a Herschel wedge. If you can swing a 1.25" wedge you will be getting the best possible views. I have an APM wedge that completely replaced all of my other white light filters.

Clear Skies,

Steve

I like the glass filters simply because they are more durable. I had a film filter for my pronto but it tore. I have a glass filter that I bought about 10 years ago for my C5 and now I use it with my NP101. I have another one I use with my 80mm.

Yeah I keep going back and forth... I have a glass filter for my bigger scope. I just like how cost effective the black polymer is.

Ahhhh :-)
