Cartes Du Ciel is free off the internet. Many like it, me I am not a fond of it as I am to the Starry Night Pro 4.5 I own.

Check out David Lane's Earth Centered Universe. Very good - and VERY fast.

In the free category, you might also try Hnsky at:

http://www.hnsky.org/software.htm

Can be customized to include more stars than you probably can stand, and it also has telescope control through ASCOM interface.

Consider Deep Sky 2003: http://www.deepsky2003.net/

One of the things I like is that it integrates with ASCOM (to control the scope) easily, and the images are close to what you'd see visually.
