Canon EOS T-ring Concerns

I tried a new T-ring on my brand new Canon 30D today and later in the day the 30d died. Just stopped powering up. It had twice before acted erratically, shutting itself down and not repowering up until I removed and then replaced the same battery. I tried both my Canon batteries this afternoon to no avail.

Anyone heard of a T-ring causing any problems?

I have babied the camera and was really enjoying it. Now it will be headed to Canon's Factory Service with little chance of seeing it before Christmas...Grrrrr

I've never heard of such a problem caused by a t-ring on a Canon.

Is it somehow shorting the electronic contacts which
send signal and power to the lens?

Damage is possible, but it takes more than just the t-mount adapter on its own:
There are a couple of electrical contact pins in the lens mount, which the t-mount ring itself will not touch. Just put the t-mount ring on its own on the body and see yourself.
*But* if the lens/scope that threads into the t-mount has a metallic front surface *and* it protrudes far enough towards the camera it can sort some supply voltage pins there. Its usually "just" blowing a fuse inside the camera and its dead right away.
If you can do electrical measurements, I can post here how to check for this in more detail.
